DEAR FRIENDS

The Promise of Resurrection

Dear friends,

I’ve always been fascinated by the idea of composting. I toyed with starting to do it in New Jersey, but we were afraid that the smells of food waste outside might attract our neighborhood bears. We saw enough of them without putting out bait!

I know – it seems like a weird thing to be fascinated by. But I’ve always been drawn to the idea of not only reducing the waste I generate by living through my daily routines, but even more by the idea of finding new value in that waste. What was waste – through a process that, because of my ignorance, seems to me to be mysterious – gets transformed into something new that is beneficial in new ways.

As I write to you this week, we are in the final, waning days of Lent. And by the time you read this, we will be deep in the heart of the Triduum – those holiest days from Maundy Thursday, through Good Friday, and into Holy Saturday that give us our last moments of preparation for Easter and Resurrection joy.

It’s a strange time to write and reflect, because our practice of faith is sort of in a time that’s like mid-compost. Our old and used-up ways of looking at the world are, through a mysterious process, being reformed and transformed into something entirely new – something with new, profound value; something that will feed starving souls.

As we make our way into this, our first Easter together, I invite you to consider that. Consider the idea that God is actively working within you to break down the useless leftovers of hurtful faith traditions that you may be holding; and consider that God can, through the power of resurrection and love, transform them into something new and powerful.

That is the Easter hope and that is the promise of Resurrection.

Blessings,
Jon+

HELP US BLOOM!

Easter Sunday Sanctuary Decorating

Saturday, April 19 at 9:30am

Join us as we transform the sanctuary into a beautiful celebration of Easter! We'll be arranging potted flowers, raising banners, moving chairs and bringing the joy of Easter to life. No experience needed - just your helping hands and joyful spirit. Any questions, reach out to Heather Meyer at heather@trinitytoledo.org

EASTER EGG HUNT THIS SUNDAY!

We will be hosting our 3rd annual Easter Egg Hunt on our plaza right after service! There will be an announcement to meet by the Nursery, so we can all walk up to My Brother’s Place together. Questions? Reach out to george@trinitytoledo.org

SUNDAY SCHOOL - EASTER SUNDAY

This Sunday we will be celebrating Easter as a church family. The Nursery will be open for kids under 5, but elementary and older are invited to spend the service with their families.

ONE BEAUTIFUL YEAR!

Easter morning not only marks the resurrection of Jesus, but the first anniversary of our signature ministry. Since this ministry started, we have served over 4,000 meals, and you are invited to join us for breakfast to celebrate this journey. Come and be fed, or bring some fruit to pass as well! All are welcome.

PLAZA WORK DAYS

All hands on deck!

Your help is needed! In May, we are going to refresh the two beds that we planted last year, and plant two more beds. Many hands make light work, so come one and all!
Saturday, May 3 9:30 a.m.-12:00 noon We'll spread soil in 4 beds (the soil will already have been delivered up to the plaza).
Saturday, May 10 1:00-4:00 p.m. Come in the afternoon to plant the plants that we will buy in the morning at the Wild Ones native plant sale. We need 5 volunteers to help buy the plants at the plant sale in Whitehouse at 11:00 a.m.and transport them to Trinity. Let Bruce or Meribah Mansfield know if you can help buy plants (not at your expense, the grant will pay for them).
Saturday, May 17 9:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Come help plant the Children's Garden! Families and children are especially welcome.

SCAM ALERT

A reminder for us all - Neither Jon nor any of Trinity Staff will send emails asking for gift cards. These are phishing scams sent from fake emails. Often the language includes something like, "I need your help in handling something discreetly..." Block/delete these emails! You can always call us at the office if you have questions.

EARTH DAY CELEBRATION

On Sunday, April 27, the MultiFaith Council of Northwest Ohio and Holy Trinity Lutheran Church will sponsor the second annual Earth Day Celebration on Glendale Avenue next to the church from 2 to 6 pm. EASTER VIGIL

Easter Vigil with our siblings at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church

On Saturday, April 19 at 7pm, an Easter Vigil will be hosted at St. Andrew’s 2770 Central Avenue, Toledo. A light celebratory reception will follow!

TRINITY'S PRAYER LIST

Trinity continues to have an active prayer list. If you’d like prayers for yourself or for someone you know, you can request them by contacting the Trinity office (trinity@trinitytoledo.org or 419-243-1231). All prayer requests are shared only with a small intercessory prayer group who, along with parish clergy, offer recurring prayers for each request. When a request is received, it remains on the prayer list for four weeks before it’s taken off. Requests can always be renewed or submitted again; having an “expiration date” simply prevents the list from overflowing with prayer requests that are out of date.

TRINITY@HOME LIVE-STREAM

Trinity@Home is now a live-stream of Trinity’s 10:00 am in-person service with an interactive chat.
