DEAR FRIENDS

Journey to Holy Week

Dear friends,

This Sunday, we begin our journey to Holy Week by celebrating Palm Sunday. This entrance of Jesus into Jerusalem on a donkey is full of expectations on his followers’ behalf. From the zealots, an over throwing of Rome’s power in Palestine, from his disciples perhaps the kin-dom of heaven establishing to earth, and everything in between. The story of Jesus’ last week of ministry this side of death is something Christians all over the earth have celebrated for almost two millennia.

It is impossible for me to prepare for Holy Week without thinking of the humanitarian crisis happening in the Middle East. For over 100 years, the Presiding Bishops of the Episcopal Church have taken up a Good Friday offering in support of The Episcopal Church in Jerusalem. This year’s offering will go to support specific ministries in The Episcopal Church in Jerusalem, look to the Easter appeal letter for more information.

For the past 18 months in our Noon Prayer Service, we have been praying for those in Palestine and Israel, and this Easter we can pray with our actions. We are inviting you to commemorate this holy season by making a special gift, beyond regular giving, to partner in this Easter offering appeal. Every cent that goes above our budgeted amount will go towards this offering.

We will continue our local direct missional support offering for the Christmas season. With everything happening in our world, we want to embrace our larger identity as Episcopalians and join the larger Episcopal Church in supporting those in the Middle East.

Thank you for your continued support of Trinity Episcopal Church and we look forward to seeing you Sunday.

Grace and peace,
George Benson (he/him)

SPIRITUAL FORMATION GUIDE TO HOLY WEEK

We are nearing the end of our Lenten journeys with Holy Week, when we tell the story of Jesus' last week -  his triumphal entry into Jerusalem, the last meal with his friends, his betrayal, arrest, trial, crucifixion, death, and being laid in the tomb. If you are new to Holy Week and/or the services being offered, the Spiritual Formation Committee has compiled information about our Holy Week services.

On Ash Wednesday, we were invited to a Holy Lent. Now, we are invited to a Holy Week: attend as many services as your schedule allows. Each tells the story of Jesus' last week in a different way; hearing it repeatedly helps us be a part of the story.

Remembering Jesus’ last week is hard. Unfortunately, we can't jump from the joy of Palm Sunday to the joy of Easter without walking through the time between. Live into the experience of Holy Week.

MAUNDY THURSDAY

Feast of Friends - April 17: Jesus gathered with his friends to celebrate the feast of the Passover the night before he died for revolutionary love. In his Jewish context and tradition, it was a time to remember how God had led the people of God out of slavery, through the waters, through the wilderness, and into the Promised Land.  It was through this tradition that the Christian tradition of celebrating the Holy Eucharist was grown - following Christ through our own wilderness and into the new Promised Land of true life.

Once a year, we expand the way we remember that meal beyond the symbols of bread and wine. After we eat and engage with Scripture, we will join Christ at the holy table and recall that Last Supper he shared with his friends and companions before entering new life. Please join us on Thursday, April 17 at 6:30. Sign up so we can prepare a place for you- and consider bringing a friend who has never been invited to this Way of Love.  https://www.signupgenius.com/go/maundythursday2025

PLAZA WORK DAYS

All hands on deck!

Your help is needed! In May, we are going to refresh the two beds that we planted last year, and plant two more beds. Many hands make light work, so come one and all!
Saturday, May 3 9:30 a.m.-12:00 noon We'll spread soil in 4 beds (the soil will already have been delivered up to the plaza).
Saturday, May 10 1:00-4:00 p.m. Come in the afternoon to plant the plants that we will buy in the morning at the Wild Ones native plant sale. We need 5 volunteers to help buy the plants at the plant sale in Whitehouse at 11:00 a.m.and transport them to Trinity. Let Bruce or Meribah Mansfield know if you can help buy plants (not at your expense, the grant will pay for them).
Saturday, May 17 9:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Come help plant the Children's Garden! Families and children are especially welcome.

TRINITY'S PRAYER LIST

Trinity continues to have an active prayer list. If you’d like prayers for yourself or for someone you know, you can request them by contacting the Trinity office (trinity@trinitytoledo.org or 419-243-1231). All prayer requests are shared only with a small intercessory prayer group who, along with parish clergy, offer recurring prayers for each request. When a request is received, it remains on the prayer list for four weeks before it’s taken off. Requests can always be renewed or submitted again; having an “expiration date” simply prevents the list from overflowing with prayer requests that are out of date.

TRINITY@HOME LIVE-STREAM

Trinity@Home is now a live-stream of Trinity’s 10:00 am in-person service with an interactive chat.
