During our Welcome Back Sunday Fiesta (Sept 8) immediately following worship, she will be grabbing you for headshot photos. These photos will populate our Shelby Church Management database as we prepare the way for our anticipated new rector. Having photos of each of your lovely faces will be an incredible help as they navigate all the new faces and names. No grumbling allowed!

EXPLORING CIVIC LIFE AND FAITH
|
Join Trinity Episcopal Church as we explore how faith intersects with civic life. Sessions will be held in the sanctuary following our Sunday morning services (start times approximately 11:15 am).
September 15: Introduction: Civic Life & Faith. The relationship of faith and citizenship. What is a Christian's responsibility as a citizen? Christian view of the state?
September 22: Our Faith, Our Vote. A representative from the League of Women Voters will be talking about voter registration, issue education, and voter empowerment. (Voter registration deadline in Ohio for the fall election is October 7, 2024.)
September 29: Civil Religion. Robert Bellah's landmark article on civil religion, "Civil Religion in America"(bit.ly/3ANUmwc); NPR’s "Can America's 'Civil Religion' Still Unite the Country?" (n.pr/4cLvGl2)
October 6: Learning to Disagree. How can we disagree without being disagreeable? What do we do when we disagree with family members or with friends with whom we thought we shared values?
October 13: Spiritual Disciplines for Public Life. Based on chapters from Michael Wear’s The Spirit of Our Politics: Spiritual Formation and the Renovation of Public Life
October 20: Christian Nationalism. What is Christian nationalism? How is it different from American civil religion?
October 27: Vote Faithfully Sunday. A celebration of the right and privilege of voting.

ACTORS COLLABORATIVE TOLEDO

Actors Collaborative Toledo presents Lee Blessing’s award winning “Eleemosynary” in Trinity's Chapel
ACT's Season Opener Begins September 20 and 21 at 8pm and September 22 at 3:00pm in our beautifully restored Trinity Chapel.
“Eleemosynary” focuses on the lives of a family of three brilliant women. Seventy-five-year-old Dorothea (Jennifer Nagy Lake), her middle-aged daughter, Artie (Marissa Rex), and her sixteen-year-old granddaughter, Echo (Pippin Green). Dorothea, an admitted New Age eccentric, has alienated Artie, not only from herself, but also from her own daughter Echo as well. During the course of the play, Echo tries to connect with her mother and bring them all together as a family. Blessing highlights the human need for connection and forgiveness, and illustrates the tensions that can stress a family to its breaking point. This play is being produced as a fundraiser for Toledo Streets Newspaper (TSN) our long-standing community partner now with their offices at Trinity too. Thanks to a donation from a generous patron, tickets for this event are free. When booking tickets, patrons will be prompted to make a (voluntary) donation to Toledo Streets Newspaper. 100% of all funds raised will be donated to TSN. Tickets for “Eleemosynary” can be booked through ACT’s website at www.act419.org.

BRING A HOSTA TO CHURCH WORK DAY
|
Saturday, September 21 8:30 a.m.-12:00 noon is "Bring a Hosta to Church" Plaza Work Day! We will plant hostas and native ferns in the long narrow bed that runs along the Four Seagate building, with the two compost bins at the end of it. It is shaded in the morning, and gets some afternoon sun. Split your hostas and bring a plant or more to put in the shade garden! Soil and mulch will be delivered at 8:30 a.m. We'll carry and wheel it up to the plaza, then we'll prepare the bed and plant it. Don't have hostas to bring? Everyone is welcome and wanted to help create the shade garden! There will be tasks for all so please come even if you are physically limited from carrying bags of soil, etc. The more, the merrier!

HELP WANTED: DIOCESAN CONVENTION DELEGATES!
|
The Episcopal Diocese of Ohio will hold its annual Convention on Friday and Saturday, November 8 & 9, in Perrysburg. Trinity is looking for three people who would like to serve as convention delegates.
Convention delegates represent Trinity as the diocese conducts its annual business: adopting a budget, electing people for leadership positions, and voting on resolutions of various kinds. In addition to the business portion of the convention, there’s also time for fellowship and worship. In many ways, diocesan conventions are big family reunions where Episcopalians from the northern half of the state gather to celebrate and to plan for God’s mission in the coming year.

TSN VENDOR LUNCHES
|
On the third Thursday of each month, Trinity supplies the vendors of Toledo Streets Newspaper (TSN) with a buffet lunch! And we need YOUR help! Trinity will purchase the food but we will need 4-6 volunteers to help prepare the meal deliver it to the TSN Office.

TRINITY PRAYER LIST
|

Did you know that Trinity has an active prayer list? If you’d like prayers for yourself or for someone you know, you can request them by contacting the Trinity office (trinity@trinitytoledo.org or 419-243-1231) or our interim rector, Stephen Applegate (in person or via email at stephen@trinitytoledo.org).
At the moment, all prayer requests are shared only with a small intercessory prayer group who, along with parish clergy, offer recurring prayers for each request. This is not a closed group. If you want to join Trinity parishioners who’ve committed to the practice of regularly praying for others, ask Stephen about joining the prayer team.
When a request is received, it remains on the prayer list for four weeks before it’s taken off. Requests can always be renewed or submitted again. However, having an “expiration date” will prevent the list from overflowing with prayer requests that are out of date.
