DEAR FRIENDS

Protect Trans Kids

Dear friends,

Our trans siblings have always existed, and will always exist no matter what any political or religious entity says. According to the Williams Institute, 0.6% of Americans identify as Transgender, yet, our siblings have been attacked time and again. As we look to celebrate Transgender Day of Visibility on the 31st, we will also celebrate it on Sunday morning. As a church that recognizes the image of God in all peoples, we look forward to raising up our Trans siblings not just this weekend, but throughout the whole year.

Trinity drew its line in the sand in 2023 when we adopted “Protect Trans Kids” as our theme for Pride, and we still proudly stand with our trans siblings. We are still committed to calling our representatives and working to steer them to protect our trans siblings in any way possible, and we always will be.

May we remember always that trans rights are human rights, and all human rights are worth protecting.

Grace and peace,
George Benson (he/him)

IT'S NOT TOO LATE! JOIN US FOR OUR LENTEN ACTIVITIES

Friends, it's not too late to join us for our Lenten activities!
  • Wednesdays, 6:00 pm: soup supper and a discussion of Bishop Mariann's book How we Learn to Be Brave. Didn't read the book? That's okay. We want you with us!
  • Sundays, after church: discussion of Kate Bowler's online Lenten devotional, The Hardest Part. (You can download the  daily guide here.) This beautiful devotional invites us to sit in the mess of our lives with God - not to "fix it," not to "improve" (the spiritual journey is not about that), but to experience God's presence in real life (the spiritual journey is about that). Let's be here for one another on the journey.

PLAZA DESIGN MEETING

April 5: The plaza will bloom with new life this spring! Come help design the plaza's garden beds on Saturday, April 5 from 9:30-11:00 a.m. in My Brother's Place. We'll brainstorm about possibilities for each of the plaza's garden containers, and then decide how to phase in our vision during this year and next year. This will be a fun, hands-on activity. Some options include:

  • a children's garden with both vegetables and flowers, for the kids to plant and tend
  • rain gardens in three of the wettest beds, which are watered by a downspout
  • a bright rainbow garden planted with native perennial flowers
  • a Monarch Waystation

We'll leave the April 5 design meeting with a list of plants that we need. Please plan to join in the planting of them by participating in these plaza work days: Saturday, May 3 9:30 a.m.-12:00 noon We'll spread soil in the beds (soil will already have been delivered up to the plaza). Saturday, May 10 1:00-4:00 p.m. Come in the afternoon to plant the plants that we will buy in the morning at a native plant sale.

TRINITY TOURS

Sunday, April 6 (following worship)

Why is this church building so big? What’s behind that door? What lies beyond those steps? For a church dedicated in 1866, Trinity Episcopal Church remains a landmark in downtown Toledo. For many of us, though, we take a short walk down a hallway connecting the parking garage to the sanctuary and enter and stay in the sanctuary. But there’s much more to see….

Save the date for our 2nd Trinity Church tour. Grab a cup of coffee and a goodie after the service and gather in the Cloister (space where first floor bathrooms are located). We will be heading down below to the Undercroft. Isn’t that a much better name than basement? There’s a whole world down there so many of you have never seen, and rich with history.

There is elevator access. This tour will require walking unlike our kick-off tour. Our own Heather Meyer is excited to guide us!

TRINITY'S PRAYER LIST

Trinity continues to have an active prayer list. If you’d like prayers for yourself or for someone you know, you can request them by contacting the Trinity office (trinity@trinitytoledo.org or 419-243-1231). All prayer requests are shared only with a small intercessory prayer group who, along with parish clergy, offer recurring prayers for each request. When a request is received, it remains on the prayer list for four weeks before it’s taken off. Requests can always be renewed or submitted again; having an “expiration date” simply prevents the list from overflowing with prayer requests that are out of date.

TRINITY@HOME LIVE-STREAM

Trinity@Home is now a live-stream of Trinity’s 10:00 am in-person service with an interactive chat.
